Jay C. Somers, MS, PA-C, DFAAPA
PA Somers is a Nevada State licensed and nationally Certified Physician Assistant working in the area of Adult and Child Psychiatry with nearly 20 years experiences. He graduated with his Masters in Science in 1998 from Finch University/The Chicago Medical School in Illinois and then moved to Las Vegas, NV in 2000. He has full prescribing ability in Nevada and can offer full service outpatient psychiatric services. He see kids and adults 5 years old and older. He is well versed in psychopharmacology as well as the need to balance out the neuro-chemical with the environmental and is a strong believer in psychotherapy and will suggest that almost all of his patients consider therapy/counseling outside of medication sessions as an aid in getting perspective on their entire life picture.
He is well prepared to evaluate and treat mood disturbances, depression, anger, anxiety, obsessions, attention deficit issues, psychosis, and psychiatric aspects of medical illness. He says “I believe that Psychiatry is about “Quality Of Life”, perhaps more than any other field of medicine. Because it’s about YOUR quality, you have to want to seek help and want to change something that is affecting your life negatively, I am ready to Help”.
He is an active Adjunct Clinical Instructor at Touro University for over 10 years and is starting work on his Doctor of Health Science degree (DHSc). He has previously served as the President and Chairman of the Board of both the National Associations of Physician Assistant in Psychiatry and, most recently in 2015, as the President of the Nevada Academy of Physician Assistants. He is honored to have been selected, this year, to served as a Delegate to the Nevada State Medical Association as a representative for Clark County.
